FAQ

  • My approach to psychotherapy is client-led, which means that you decide what we work on, how often we meet, and what we discuss. A big part of the work in therapy is learning to listen to your inner voice, and my approach is designed to encourage and facilitate this.

  • Generally sessions are 55 minutes in length. But if you feel this isn’t enough time for you to be able to share 85 minutes sessions are also available.

  • I see clients on Mondays (day and evening), Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and weekends.

  • This is entirely up to you. We will discuss the options in our first session and come up with a plan that makes sense for you, based on your goals, preferences and budget.

  • I currently provide individual therapy to adults (and older teens 17+). That said, I do provide support for individuals navigating relational/relationship challenges.

  • I use a platform called Jane for booking, billing, and the sessions themselves. It is completely secure and meets all privacy requirements. You will receive a link by email to join my virtual therapy room in advance of each session.

I use a variety of approaches depending on the client’s concern and preferences, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Criminology Honours Degree- Ontario Tech University, 2013 – 2015

Protection, Security, and Investigation Diploma- Durham College, 2011 – 2013 (Honour Roll)

  • In 2017, I completed a diploma in addiction counselling at McMaster University. This diploma provided me with an in-depth understanding of addiction treatment, from the stages of change to the systems used to treat addiction. But I have come to learn that what matters most is meeting clients where they are and offering therapy which matches their goals for substance abuse, whether this be harm reduction or abstinence.

Why 'I AM'

My practice is named after my Dad, Ian Allen McPhee. He always dreamed of owning a business called I AM (his initials). Unfortunately, after a terminal cancer diagnosis at the age of 55, he passed away before he could achieve that dream. So I figured I’d do it for him.

In addition to honouring my father, I love the possibility that comes after ‘I AM’ – and believe that therapy is a great place to discover who we are and step into who we are meant to be.

My experience caring for my father in his final months of life, and my own experience of grief -leading up to his death and afterwards – shaped how I understand, support, and empathize with my clients on every level.
